THE GODDAMNED returns in May
Updated: Apr 23
Your favorite Biblical noir series is back for another bloody round of full-color comic book blasphemy.
The dudes who brought you SCALPED aren't done bringing you their version of the Book of Genesis. With THE GODDAMNED Volume One, "Before the Flood," r.m.Guéra and I gave you the story of Cain, the inventor of murder, and his run-in with Noah, of Ark fame, set within a world on the eve of the Great Flood, a world so brutal and out-of-control that its creator is just about to pull the plug. It's the story of the very first end of the world, all wrapped up in a caveman action tale featuring lots of sharpened rocks and pointy sticks and hatchets made of jawbones.
Volume Two, "The Virgin Brides," is set within the same pre-flood world, but features a completely different cast of characters. It's a story centered around a mysterious nunnery at the foot of a mountain and a couple of young would-be brides who finally realize the dark truth of the place.
It's quite likely the most gorgeous thing Guéra has ever drawn. And as it stands right now, the entire volume will be done before the first issue ships, so there should be no publication delays. Below you’ll see interior pages from each of the first four issues, along with the official solicitation for issue #1.
See you in May. See you in hell.
Writer JASON AARON and artist r.m.GUÉRA return to the stark and brutal world of THE GODDAMNED for the long-awaited second chapter of their biblical-noir epic.
Genesis 6:4. “…the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men. And they bore children to them…”
In the time before the Great Flood, the world of man is a place of wanton violence and unbridled depravity. But hidden high atop a mountain, there is a very different sort of world. One without men. Here, the holy sisters at a secret nunnery live in paradise, a new Eden, rearing their flock of orphaned girls to embrace their future as blessed Brides of the Sons of God. But when Sharri and Jael, two girls on the cusp of flowering, uncover what it truly means to become a Bride, they realize there’s only one way to escape the bonds of matrimony: run like hell.
