I've been incredibly lucky over the course of my career to have worked with a ridiculously stellar line-up of artists. Today is no different.
Federico Vicentini has been doing really gorgeous, action-packed work on AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, and here he makes the entirety of HEROES REBORN #3 feel kinetic and full-throttle, every page of it on-the-run at light speed. Which is exactly what you want in a book about Blur, the earth's swiftest mortal.
Regular cover by Leinil Yu and Sunny Gho. Trading card variant by Mark Bagley. Action Figure Variant by John Tyler Christopher. Variant by Jeffrey Veregge. Variant by Nick Bradshaw. Stormbreakers variant by Peach Momoko.
I've always wanted to write a story about a speedster. With this issue I finally got my chance. It also has some mystical echoes of my DOCTOR STRANGE run with Chris Bachalo (another one of those stellar artists I've gotten to partner with over the years).
Chaos magic at Mach 5! Blur, the swiftest mortal alive, must win a race through the mind-bending Dread Dimension in order to save his soul from the hypersonic hexes of the Speedster Supreme, the Silver Witch.
That solicit started its life as my description for this issue in my original outline. I don't think I even had an idea who the Silver Witch was until I wrote that. And it all started to come together after that. Speedsters + the mystic arts = something I really wanted to see brought to life. And now, by the groovy moons of Munnopor, feast your eyes on these beautiful preview pages by Vicentini and colorist Matt Milla.
HEROES REBORN #3 also continues Blade's quest to reform the Avengers in another world-building back-up story by Ed McGuinness, Mark Morales and Matthew Wilson.
Thanks to all of you out there for embracing this weird and fun little event. Here's hoping the reading of it makes you smile even half as much as the writing of it did for me.
Today is New Comic Book Day. Today is for comics and smiles.
And someone who's been making me smile for years now is Jane Foster. The second issue of Jane's new series, THE MIGHTY VALKYRIES, is also out today, continuing the story of moon wolves and Hel queens and hey, look, it's Kraven!
Regular cover by Mattia de Iulis. Variant cover by Peach Momoko. Predator variant by Jung-Geun Yoon.
As usual it's by writer Torunn Grønbekk (with a slight assist from me) and artists Mattia de Iulis and Erica D'Urso.
How good is Mattia? Seriously. Just check out the many faces of More, the moon wolves who are one wolf.
May you smile like More the moon wolf today. Here's wishing love and new comics to you all.
